Great reporting Debra. I’ve just been in touch with one of my Iranian friends and they really want this in the hope of a regime change, the people have suffered greatly under the Islamic Republic. Apparently up to 50,000 could be dead from the recent uprising and as my friend said - there is nothing they can do with empty hands….They are truly hoping for a secular society after this. I just fear that what Israel has in mind is not much a society at all but a failed state. And I just don’t agree with made up wars. If the US would be doing this for the people and democracy that would be one thing - but we know the President does not have a long attention span, or cares much for anything beyond self interest.
Congratulations on the most complete organized explanation of Trump‘s and Israel’s attack on Iran and possible dangerous, along with some latest information you received regarding their most current negotiations.
This was the most complete explanation behind Trump‘s and Israel’s attack on Iran and the unbelievably dangerous outcomes, that I have heard on TV all day. I wish you could share it with JStreet when you see some old friends tomorrow.
And of course, who would doubt the moral standing of the UN. After all, wasn’t Irans rep appointed to chair the UNHRC Social Forum. International law - give me a break.
President Trump has not started a war. He is ending a war that Iran has been conducting against America for 47 years.
The UN Charter does not supersede the president’s constitutional authority to act in national security matters. Specific clauses are not legally binding in domestic courts.
UN Charter's prohibition on the use of force (Article 2(4)) is frequently challenged by executive actions justified under U.S. national security interests.
Numerous Presidents have challenged this prohibition. We do not need UN Approval to act in the interest
Gulf states that have flooded trump, Witkoff, Kushner with $$$$ wanted to be rid of Iran. In addition to abetting trump and bibi corruptiopn, did $$ also pay to rent Us military might?
Reasonable Q, Joy, but I don’t think quite it. The Gulf states are wary of Iran but were trying to forestall war, understanding the dangers it would pose to them directly (Iranian retaliation vs. US bases in Gulf states) and indirectly (regional instability).
Thank you your reply. A lot of questions, and hard to assess what we hear. Obviously can’t trust Iran state media. But words from US president are not dependable, often lies. Israeli PM not honest broker either. Legacy media too often just repeat regime misinformation. Independent media and experts on platforms like Substack are prominent in understanding what is happening and implications.

Thanks for sharing this. There is no question that the Iranian people have greatly suffered under this horrible regime and they deserve much better.
Excellent concise reporting Debra
Thanks, Donna!
